Everything a food diary needs. Free.

Personal calorie budget

Based on age, height, weight, sex and activity. Target dates that are too tight are adjusted instead of setting an extreme deficit.

Quick logging

Search basic foods and branded products, scan barcodes, add favourites with one tap, or enter manually. In grams, millilitres or pieces.

Over 7,000 foods

Basic foods and dishes from the German Nutrient Database (BLS), with raw and cooked listed separately, plus branded products via search or barcode.

Daily overview

Budget, eaten and remaining, plus protein, carbs and fat. Exercise isn’t counted twice.

Honest monthly summary

Days you didn’t log count as “no data”, never as zero calories. Scale readings and estimates are kept separate.

Forecast with a range

The forecast takes into account that your needs fall as you lose weight, and gets more accurate with every weigh-in.

Premium: take a photo, done.

The AI recognises foods and estimates the amounts – you check and save. Or simply describe your meal in one sentence. €5 a month, cancel monthly.

A free calorie counter – no ads, no catch

FreeMealTracker is a free calorie counter for anyone who wants to eat more mindfully, lose weight or maintain it. Diary, food search, barcode, favourites, your own recipes, monthly overview and weight forecast cost nothing – permanently and without ads. Only logging by photo with AI is a Premium feature, because every analysis has running costs.

Count calories online or as an app

The calorie counter runs in your browser – online on your computer and on your phone, no app store download needed. Add it to your home screen and it works like an app, even offline; your entries sync when you're back online. Your diary is stored encrypted and is the same on every device.

How counting calories works

  1. Work out your needs: age, height, weight, sex and activity give your personal calorie budget – just like the calorie calculator.
  2. Log your food: search foods, scan barcodes, tap favourites or – with Premium – count calories from a photo.
  3. See your progress: daily overview with protein, carbs and fat, plus monthly summary and weight trend.

Over 300,000 foods to choose from: basic foods and dishes from the German Food Code (BLS), raw and cooked separately, plus branded products from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. You'll also find the nutrition facts in the calorie table.

Honest numbers, not empty promises

Many calorie counters treat forgotten days as 0 kcal and promise a fixed target date. FreeMealTracker doesn't: days you didn't log count as "no data", exercise isn't counted twice, and the forecast shows a range that gets more accurate with every weigh-in. If you want to lose weight, you get a sensible calorie deficit instead of a crash diet.

Prefer a simple start? A plain food diary shows within days where most of your calories come from.

Frequently asked questions

Is the calorie counter really free?+

Yes. Diary, food search, barcode, favourites, your own recipes, calorie budget, monthly overview and weight forecast are free forever and ad-free. Only logging by photo or description with AI costs €5 a month as Premium, because every analysis has running costs.

Is there an app?+

Yes. It runs in the browser on phone and computer and can be added to your home screen like an app – no app store, usable offline.

Can I count calories online on my computer?+

Yes. Sign in in your browser and you'll see the same diary on your computer as on your phone.

How are my calorie needs calculated?+

From your age, height, weight, sex and activity in daily life and sport (Mifflin-St Jeor equation). If your target date is too tight, we suggest a later one instead of an extreme deficit.

How accurate is photo recognition?+

It gives a suggestion, not a measurement. Oil, sauces and portion sizes are hard to see in photos, so you check and correct every item before it's saved.

What happens to my data?+

Your diary is stored encrypted so you can use it on all your devices. You can download it, delete just the diary or delete your whole account at any time. Photos for AI analysis are not stored.
