Install FreeMealTracker as an app

You don’t need an app store for FreeMealTracker. Add it to your home screen straight from the browser – from then on it opens like any other app, full screen and even without internet.

iPhone & iPad

Safari
  1. 1 Open freemealtracker.com/app in Safari.
  2. 2 Tap the Share button at the bottom (top right on iPad).
  3. 3 Scroll down and choose “Add to Home Screen”.
  4. 4 Tap “Add” in the top right.
  5. 5 From now on, start FreeMealTracker from the new home-screen icon and sign in once.

Since iOS 16.4 this also works in Chrome, Edge or Firefox via the Share button. If “Add to Home Screen” is missing, tap “Edit Actions” at the bottom and add it.

Android

Chrome
  1. 1 Open freemealtracker.com/app in Chrome.
  2. 2 Tap the menu ⋮ in the top right.
  3. 3 Choose “Install app” (sometimes “Add to Home screen”).
  4. 4 Confirm with “Install”.
  5. 5 The app now sits in your app drawer and on your home screen.

Samsung Internet: menu ≡ → “Add page to” → “Home screen”. Chrome often shows an “Install app” prompt by itself.

Computer

Chrome / Edge
  1. 1 Open freemealtracker.com/app in Chrome or Edge.
  2. 2 Click the install icon on the right of the address bar.
  3. 3 Confirm with “Install” – the app opens in its own window.

Safari on Mac (macOS Sonoma or later): File → “Add to Dock”. Firefox can’t install web apps – just use FreeMealTracker in the browser there.

Why install it as an app?

  • One tap instead of typing an address – the app sits next to your other apps.
  • Full screen without an address bar, more room for your diary.
  • Log offline: without a connection entries are saved and synced automatically later.
  • Your data stays safe: on iPhone, Safari deletes website data after about 7 days without a visit – not for the installed app. Your diary is stored encrypted in your account on the server anyway.
  • No app store, no manual updates: you always have the latest version.

Frequently asked questions

Is FreeMealTracker in the App Store or on Google Play?

No, and it doesn’t need to be. FreeMealTracker is a web app (PWA): you install it straight from the browser and still get your own icon, full screen and offline use.

Does the app cost anything?

No. Diary, food search, barcode, favourites and monthly summary are free. Only the AI features such as counting calories from a photo come with Premium for €5 a month, cancel any time.

I can’t find “Add to Home Screen” on my iPhone.

Make sure you scrolled all the way down in the Share menu. If it’s missing, tap “Edit Actions” and add “Add to Home Screen”. It doesn’t work in private tabs.

Does the barcode scanner work in the app?

Yes. The app asks for camera access on the first scan; once you allow it, you scan barcodes directly with your phone camera.

How do I remove the app?

Like any other app: long-press the icon and choose “Remove App” or “Uninstall”. Your account and data remain until you delete them yourself under Data.
